Garth Saloner, Professor and Long-Serving Dean of Stanford Graduate School of Business, Joins MiracleFeet Board of Directors

MiracleFeet today announced that Garth Saloner, an economist, professor, and former dean, has joined its Board of Directors.
Saloner, a native of South Africa, served as dean of Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB)—the world’s top-ranked business school—for seven years, where he was an innovator in the evolution of management education with the goal of transforming leaders who can change the world. During his tenure, the school rose to become the top-ranked business school and raised more than $500 million.
An award-winning teacher, Saloner currently teaches strategy, leadership, and entrepreneurship to students in the MBA program at Stanford.
“Growing up in South Africa I saw first-hand the challenges that children with untreated clubfoot face their whole lives,” recalls Saloner. “Yet, as MiracleFeet has shown in tens of thousands of cases, it doesn’t have to be that way. I am honored and excited to have this opportunity to work with Chesca and the Board to extend their proven model to as many children as possible around the world.”

This deepens MiracleFeet’s already strong connections to Stanford University. MiracleFeet has partnered with the Design for Extreme Affordability program at the world-renowned Stanford d.school on over 7 projects over the last 5 years. The award-winning MiracleFeet brace was a product of this partnership, now in use in 17 countries and estimated to be being used by more than 12,000 children. Many of MiracleFeet’s other innovations—from its new data collection app, text messaging to families, and digital training—came out of d.school projects. MiracleFeet’s co-founder and executive director, holds an MBA from Stanford, and MiracleFeet is fortunate to count many Stanford GSB alumni among its major donors.
MiracleFeet seeks to attract Board members with a diverse range of experience, from public health, orthopedics and non-profit management to fundraising, strategy, finance and marketing – as well as ensuring that there are Board members with strong personal connections to clubfoot. MiracleFeet had recently identified the need to add west coast representation as well as to deepen the Board’s fundraising capacity.

MiracleFeet provides organizational, technical, and financial support to clinics throughout the world in order to provide treatment to children born with clubfoot. The treatment costs, on average, less than $500 per child and is free or extremely low-cost for the families who receive it. Using a bottom-up approach, MiracleFeet offers a continuous cycle of support for the treatment of children. By 2020 we will have supported over 50,000 children.
