Mauritania
Our work
MiracleFeet began working in Mauritania in October of 2023 after many conversations and meetings with stakeholders and local medical champions. We identified a local organization with the capacity to lead a national clubfoot program and finalized a partnership with Association Mauritanienne pour la Santé de la Mère et de l’Enfant (AMSME) to support clubfoot care at the Centre National d’Orthopédie et de Réadaptation Fonctionnelle (CNORF) clinic.
MiracleFeet is the lead organization in introducing the Ponseti Method to service providers in Mauritania. Our training efforts will focus on skill and capacity building to increase the number of trained providers in country. These efforts will be complimented by the extensive experience of our partner, AMSME.
Before MiracleFeet’s involvement in Mauritania, access to clubfoot treatment was limited and primarily only available in the capital, Nouakchott. Additionally, treatment supplies, especially foot abduction braces, were lacking or too expensive for most patients.
Our Partner
Association Mauritanienne pour la Santé de la Mère et de l’Enfant (Mauritanian Association for Mother and Child Health, AMSME) is an apolitical and non-profit, non-governmental organization officially recognized by the state. Its mission is to ensure support for vulnerable groups and to promote the rights of women and children and their full participation in economic and social development. AMSME’s work focuses specifically on reproductive health, preventing violence against women and children, and supporting human rights. AMSME was founded by the current president Madame Zeinabou Taleb Moussa, a midwife by training.
