About our work

Sierra Leone is a rapidly growing country with an estimated population of nearly 8 million. Disability services in the country have historically not had significant government attention or resources making it difficult for the estimated 273 children born with clubfoot every year to access quality treatment. Misconceptions about the disability, lack of training facilities, and a lack of awareness of treatment availability have also contributed to many untreated cases. MiracleFeet’s goal is to help create a sustainable and quality clubfoot treatment program in Sierra Leone to enhance the social, economic, and community inclusion of children with clubfoot in the country.

MiracleFeet’s clubfoot program in Sierra Leone started off implementation with the Sierra Leone National Clubfoot Program (SLNCP), which was established in December 2011 with the mission of ensuring all children and teenagers born with clubfoot have access to quality. Beginning in 2025, the MiracleFeet clubfoot program transitioned to the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS), who now oversees and coordinates the implementation of clubfoot care in the country. The MoHS continues the program’s focus on promoting early detection and referral, driving enrollment, investing in capacity building for community health workers, and outreach initiatives for treatment in remote areas. Together, the Sierra Leone MoHS and Miraclefeet are working in 12 districts across the country, with plans to open new clinics and maintain quality care.
