About Our Work
MiracleFeet is now supporting clinics in Senegal in partnership with DAHW, an international German relief organization established in 1957 to provide sustainable assistance to the sick and marginalized in developing countries. Active in Senegal for over 35 years, DAHW has solid experience in leprosy treatment provision and community-based rehabilitation program implementation. The organization’s vision is a world in which no one suffers from leprosy, tuberculosis, and other poverty-related diseases and their consequences. With an understanding the devastating consequences of untreated clubfoot as a leading cause of physical disability, DAHW is now committed to increasing access to proper clubfoot treatment in Senegal.
This West African country has a well-established rehabilitation infrastructure, yet children born with clubfoot here still struggle with access to treatment in many of Senegal’s 14 regions. This is due to insufficient numbers of providers properly trained in the Ponseti Method, high costs of treatment, and lack of community outreach and parent education. DAHW Senegal, located in Dakar, is bringing its expertise in community-based rehabilitation to help address these unmet needs. This fiscal year programs are starting in Touba and Dakar, with a plan to expand to other regions in the future.
