14-Year Wait for Clubfoot Treatment

December 12, 2017

Seeing the smile on Winli’s face at a casting appointment at HEODRA clubfoot clinic in Leon, Nicaragua, you wouldn’t guess the pain and suffering he has been through, or what it took for him to be sitting on the exam room table. Winli was born on the east coast of Nicaragua fourteen years ago. Due to his untreated clubfoot, Winli has been in a wheelchair most of his life.

Several months ago, the NGO Orphan Network found Winli and started to help the family look for treatment for his clubfoot. They found the MiracleFeet-supported clinic in Leon, but it was over a day away by vehicle. Determined to get Winli into treatment, they started funding air travel costs to get him to HEODRA for Ponseti treatment.

When Winli first arrived at the clinic, his clubfoot was quite severe. He had his first cast in June of 2017. By mid-July he was in his seventh cast and, five months later, his feet now show a remarkable improvement. Winli loves to joke around with the staff and doctors at HEODRA and his family is very grateful for the care and financial assistance they have received from both Orphan Network and MiracleFeet.

Be someone’s miracle this holiday season by donating to another child waiting for clubfoot treatment.
