After the 2012 pilot year, new clinics will be added in additional regions including Chiapas and Baja California.
At the Mexico City Ponseti training in February 2011, the then-president of the Mexican Pediatric Orthopedic Society (SMOP), Dr. Enrique Rosales, announced that a national network of Ponseti clinics would be a focus of his tenure. miraclefeet supported the establishment of the Mexican National Clubfoot Foundation and, in collaboration with PIA, supports the Foundation in the training of Ponseti practitioners and facilitating free or low-cost treatment. The program currently consists of nine comprehensive Ponseti clinics referred to as Ponseti Centers of Excellence. The clinics are supported on the basis of proven excellence in application of the Ponseti Method and geographical location. As the program continues to grow, Centers of Excellence continue to be launched in order to create a network of clinics that diminishes travel time required for families, which as a spur to increased patient compliance and retention. Currently, the program supports clinics in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Chihuahua, Tabasco, Oaxaca, and Merida. The unique collaboration between miraclefeet, PIA, and the Mexican Clubfoot Foundation ensures that raining, treatment, and awareness are all part of the program. Expansionmiraclefeet, PIA-Mexico and the Mexican Clubfoot Foundation held its 2nd annual training workshop at the pediatric orthopedics conference in November, with practitioners from 11 institutions. In 2013, the clinics that participated in this training will become Ponseti Centers of Excellence and receive support from the Clubfoot Foundation. The Mexican Clubfoot Foundation, PIA, and miraclefeet are working to continually grow the network of clinics so that families affected by clubfoot across Mexico do not have to travel for days to receive high-quality Ponseti treatment.
